Letters concerning TAG testing were sent home with students on 2/3. Parents have 10 school days to return the letters if they wish to have their child tested.
We will begin testing students on February 24, and we plan to have testing completed by March 7. Most students will be tested 5 or 6 days, with each session lasting 30-50 minutes. We do not have a firm schedule of which grades will be tested each day because there are always circumstances which force us to make changes. The majority of the testing will take place between 8:00 am and noon.
For students who are being tested for the first time, or students who were tested 2 years ago, the tests they will take are the CogAT, the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking and the Stanford 10 (grades K-2 only). ITBS scores are used for students in grades 3-5 in place of the Stanford 10. A Gifted Rating Scale will also be used for the area of motivation. There is no way to study for these tests, in fact we have found that students who try to study are often frustrated with the actual test because it is typically very different than the test they studied.
If your child was tested within the past two years, and he or she had motivation and/or creativity as the only areas checked on their form, we WILL NOT be pulling your child from their classroom for testing. Students always get concerned when they know they are being evaluated, but we do not get them with the other groups.
We hope to have the results back to you by mid-April. One of the tests has to be sent away to be scored and it typically takes 4-5 weeks to get the scores. Test results will be sent via US mail.
