When looking at the Mental Ability scores, a child needs to score in the 96th percentile or higher in one
area (Verbal, Quantitative, or Non-Verbal, or a composite score of two or more areas). Two scores are shown for each area...one is the SAS, or Standard Age Score. The other is the percentile rank, which compares your child's score to the children in the norm group in his or her age bracket. A score in the 96th
percentile means your child did as well as, or better than 96% of the children in his or her age bracket in the norm group. An SAS of 100 corresponds to a percentile rank of 50, which would be right in the center of the norm group.
The criteria used for the Achievement area is 90th percentile or higher on Total Reading, Total Math or the composite score on a nationally normed achievement test such as the ITBS or the Stanford 10.
Creativity scores can come from the TTCT or a standardized creativity product. A score of
90 or higher is required to meet the eligibility requirement for creativity.
For motivation, Fulton County uses the GRS Motivation rating scale. Students need to score in the 90th percentile or higher on the scale to meet the criteria.
Students must meet the criteria in 3 out of the 4 categories in order to be eligible for Gifted services. The only exception (referred to as procedure 2) is for students who have acomposite score in the 99th percentile on a mental ability test (grades K-2) or acomposite scorein the 96th percentile (grades
3-6)anda score on a nationally normed achievement test at or above the 90th percentile.
