Amusement Park
In small groups, students examine the theme of interdependence as they research, plan, design, and present plans for an amusement park based on their understanding of principles of economic interdependence, physical features of an area and natural resources of an area. Students also explore the physics of amusement park rides, and engage in creative problem solving to create and sustain a safe and enjoyable park.
STANDARDS:
Gifted students will develop and practice creative thinking and creative problem-solving skills in an area of study.
Gifted students will develop advanced communication skills that incorporate new techniques, materials, and formats in the development of products and ideas that will be shared with real audiences.
BENCHMARKS:
Advanced Communication Skills
1. Uses software packages to enhance presentation and/or product
2. Uses a variety of telecommunication tools (internet, phone, video)and/or interview
3. Organizes presentations
4. Stay on topic in presentations
5. Produces written material using the writing process which is clear, concise, and organized
Critical Thinking/Creative Problem-solving Skills
1. Brainstorm multiple ideas with relationship to the theme
2. Recognize, group, and label ideas/concepts about a theme
3. Identify problems and create individual or group statement
4. Gather pertinent facts about problem statement
5. Generate multiple unique solutions to the problem
6. Select and support with evidence the most appropriate solutions to the problem
7. Revise and refine multiple solutions
8. Develop a plan to implement a solution with back-up plans for the solution
